PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights finished seventh and Lapel ninth as Mt. Vernon dominated the boys Pendleton Invite track meet.

The Marauders scored 188 points for first place during the April 21 event, followed by New Palestine in second with 93 points. The Arabians scored 36.5 and Lapel 12.

Avry Carpenter was the top finisher for the Arabians. He took third in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:39.27.

Nate Belvo took third for Lapel in the shotput with a throw of 45-00.5.

In the 4×100 relay, the Arabians were fourth with team members Layne Richardson, Keegan Gephart, Nate DeRolf and Mark Nielson.

Nielson placed fourth in 110-meter hurdles for the Arabians, and DeRolf was fifth in the high jump, while Isaac Elizondo placed sixth. Richardson was fifth in the long jump, and Kip Mankhwala was eighth.

Arabian Will Coggins finished sixth in the 800 meters.

Bulldog Aiden Murdock placed sixth in the discus.

In its 67th year, the Pendleton Invite is the longest running track meet in Indiana.

The first meet took place in 1954, and through the years has had just two rainouts, in 1957 and 1995.

The 2020 meet was canceled because of COVID-19.

The Arabians won 27 of the meets through the years.

Lapel has two wins, and this year’s team winner, and Mt. Vernon has won 14 times, including the 2021 meet.

In the Southport Relays on April 23, the 4×1600 meter relay team of Carpenter, Coggins, Andrew Blake and Jason Lyst placed first, and the distance relay team of Coggins, Elizondo, Blake and Carpenter was third. Nielsen was sixth in the 110 hurdles. The 4×200 relay team of Mankhwala, Richardson, Gephart and DeRolf was fourth.

The Arabians travel to Zionsville on April 29 for the Zionsville Invite, which begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are home against Hamilton Heights on May 3.

The Arabian girls also competed in the Southport Relays. Delaney Fultz placed second in the 100-meter hurdles.

In the distance relay, the team of Ava Jarrell, Kaydance Mirante, Hadley Walker and Jaycee Thurman placed third.

Southport Relays Boys team scores: Warren Central 119, Noblesville 90, Roncalli 80, Southport 77, Fort Wayne Snider 59, Pendleton Heights 38, Fort Wayne Northside 33, Beech Grove 27 and Victory College Prep 8.

Southport Relays Girls team scores: Warren Central 138, Southport 118, Fort Wayne Snider 80, Pendleton Heights 50, Beech Grove 17 and Victory College Prep 5.
