NEW HAVEN — Four of the five athletes who will represent Madison County in the Indiana High School Athletic Association state cross Country finals are from either Lapel or Pendleton Heights.

Andrew Blake and Ava Jarrell of Pendleton Heights and Cameron Smith and Sophie Goodwin of Lapel finished high enough in the Oct. 21 semi-state at New Haven meet to move on to the Oct. 29 finals.

Seth Price of Liberty Christian is the fifth runner from the county to advance.

Senior Blake was 12th with a time of 16:06, while junior Smith was 13th, with a time of 16:10.

Blake and Smith have finished one behind the other in the sectional, regional and semi-state. Smith and Blake were 5th and 6th in the sectional, and Smith finished 5th in the regional, while Blake was 6th.

As a team, the Arabians boys finished 16th behind winner Fishers.

In the girls race, Jarrell, a sophomore, finished 12th with a time of 19:02, while Goodwin, a freshman, crossed the line in 22nd with a time of 19:20.

As a team, the Arabian girls were 10th behind winner Homestead.

The state finals meet is on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute.

The girls race begins at noon followed by the awards ceremony. The boys will race at 2:30 p.m. followed by awards.
