MADISON COUNTY — On Saturday, two area stars were named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State teams.

Lapel’s Nick Witte made the Class 2A Senior team, while Pendleton Heights’ Nolan Souders was named to the 4A Senior team.

Witte was a threat on both sides of the ball for the Bulldogs on his way to earning his second straight All-State selection.

Despite missing a game, offensively at wide receiver he led the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns, and broke the single-game school record.

He finished the year with 79 catches for 1,078 yards and 11 touchdowns. He broke 100 yards in five of the nine games he played in, including the single-game school record with 249 yards in a win over Heritage Christian.

His 1,078 yards was the fourth-best mark in 2A and the eighth-best total in the state.

On defense, Witte was just as important for Lapel this season.

At defensive back he led the team with three interceptions and added 46 tackles.

For the Arabians, Souders made his mark at the defensive back position as well.

He led the team with six interceptions, and four fumble recoveries, and added 19 tackles. Of his 10 turnovers accounted for, he took three back for touchdowns.

His six interceptions were the top mark in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, second in class 4A, and 14th in the state.
