The Lapel Rural Garden Club opened 2017 with a meeting at the home of Jayne Seybert. Karen Kilburn was the co-hostess. There were 10 members and one guest in attendance. Refreshments of chocolate cake and candy were served before the business meeting. The door prize was won by guest Cathy Metcalfe. The prize was a pot of miniature daffodils. The business meeting was called by the new president, Charlene Hummel. The bylaws were read and approved. Roll call was answered by telling what spring project people planned this spring. The object, collect and bird pledge were read. Minutes from the December meeting were read and approved. Bev Chase gave the garden tip, which was to use Irish Spring soap chips to prevent deer and rabbits from eating flowers. The meeting was adjourned.
