LAPEL — The top priority for Lapel senior Mackenzi Crosley when it came to choosing her college was having the scholastic program she wants.

Continuing her golf career was of secondary importance, but she is fortunate to find a school where she can do both.

Crosley will continue her golf and academic career next fall at IU-Kokomo, a place that has everything she wants in a college campus.

“It’s a small campus, and I really like it because I’ll know everybody,” she said. “The nursing program is one of the best I’ve seen among the universities that I’ve visited. Nursing was my one priority. And I can play golf, so that’s an added bonus.”

Crosley is looking forward to joining the Cougars, a team she feels she will be able to help right away.

“I’m excited to hopefully be a big asset to the team,” she said. “I went to watch them play the other day, and I can fit right in and hopefully be competing right away.”

Lapel golf coach John Maryan says he is happy for Crosley and that she has earned the opportunity to continue playing golf collegiately.

“It couldn’t happen to a nicer person,” Maryan said. “She works very hard, is a great teammate, is very conscientious and comes from a great family. I’m just glad to see her have something come up.”

Crosley is among the Top 10 in her class and is involved in 4-H, National Honor Society and volunteer work. Maryan also believes Crosley and her talents will help the Cougars in the fall.

“I think, from what I’ve seen, she’s going to help them out,” he said. “She’s very competitive, and that’s what you want is to find a place that you feel at home and compete.”

Crosley says she feels at home at IU-Kokomo and is happy she will also be close to home.

“That was important, so I can come home and see my brothers and my family,” she said.
