Lapel wins invite

BUNKER HILL — The Lapel boys placed five runners in the top 15 Saturday, Sept. 9, to win the Maconaquah Invitational.

Sophomore Luke Combs was the individual winner as well, running the 5K in 16:27, about 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Connor White from Eastbrook.

A trio of Bulldog runners finished within a second of each other as junior Jacob Addington placed ninth, followed by sophomores Jesse McCurdy and Carson Huber in 10th and 11th, respectively. Fellow sophomore Killian O’Connor placed 15th, five seconds behind Huber.

The boys team finished with a team score of 45, while Marion placed second with 114.

In the girls race, junior Noelle Loller was the top finisher for Lapel with a 22nd-place run as the Bulldogs team placed eighth in the 12-team event.

Loller completed her run in 21:43.9, less than a full second ahead of junior teammate Kara Lutz, who finished 24th.

Junior Lauren Smith finished 33rd for Lapel.

The Lapel cross country teams will head to Tipton on Saturday, Sept. 16, for a 9 a.m. start.
