PENDLETON HEIGHTS

Pendleton Heights girls tennis dropped a tough match Shelbyville 3–2 on Friday.

The team finally had some decent spring weather and almost won their second conference match of the season.

Despite the overall loss, Bailey Davis and Gracie Criswell were winners for the green and white in singles play. Both girls won in three-set fashion and played well in the final set to win some points.

Lauren Marsh at No. 3 singles was just “out-gunned” by her opponent who kept hitting the corners with driving shots, coach Royce Hammel said.

In the doubles play, Susie Kramer and Claire Goodwin, at No. 1 doubles, lost in 2 sets, but almost forced a third set, losing in a second set tie-breaker 6-2, 7-6(5).

At No. 2 doubles, Alexis Young and Taralynn Brown did force a third set but lost 3-6, 6-2, 3-6 to lose their match.

“It was a close match and a few more shots our way and it could have been a win, rather than a loss,” Hammel said.

Pendleton Heights is scheduled to play Rushville at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, April 26, at home. They play away at Heritage Christian at 5 p.m. Friday, April 27, and at Noblesville at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 30.
