Satchell Wilson drives in four to help Lapel Bulldogs pound Shenandoah, followed big win at Eastern

LAPEL — The Lapel High School baseball team won big over Eastern 8-1 Friday, May 4.

The Bulldogs opened scoring in the first inning, when Ryne Wheeler drew a walk, scoring one run. Then they put up four runs in the second inning with Connor Gill, Devan Frank and Satchell Wilson all driving in runs.

Cameron Holycross earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Lapel. He surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out 13 and walking one.

Lapel scattered 12 hits in the game. Wilson, Gill, Caden Shirley, and Frank all managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Wilson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Lapel.

Earlier in the week, Satchell Wilson came to the diamond to play Wednesday, May 2.

The Bulldog drove in four runs on three hits to lead Lapel past Shenandoah 17-7.

Wilson drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the second, and a sacrifice fly in the third.

Shenandoah scored six runs in the first inning, but Lapel still managed to pull out the victory. Shenandoah batters contributing to the big inning included Landen Freestone, Gavin Patrick, Jake Webster, Ty Alexander and Lucas Wuestefeld, all driving in runs.

Shenandoah opened up an early lead in the first inning when Wuestefeld singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good with eight runs in the second inning. Wilson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, and Holycross grounded out, scoring one run.

Levi Frazier was the winning pitcher for Lapel. He surrendered seven runs on six hits over four innings, striking out one. Wilson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jackson Campbell took the loss for Shenandoah. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and 11 runs while striking out two.

Lapel dished out 13 hits on the day. Wheeler, Wilson, and Frank all punched out multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

Both wins were a nice bounce back for the Bulldogs after starting off the week with a 20-9 defeat to Guerin Catholic Tuesday, May 1.

Lapel lost to Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter 12-1 on Monday, May 7, in a home non- conference game. They fell 7-6 at Westfield on Tuesday, May 8. The game was tied in the bottom of the eighth when an RBI single tipped the balance.

The Bulldogs next face Daleville at 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 10; Sheridan at home at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11; and Knightstown on the road at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12. They travel to Pendleton Heights for a 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, game and play in Anderson at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16.
