INGALLS — Ingalls Planning Commission conducted a public hearing recently to discuss — and ultimately approve — the final development plan for a new business, General Truck Sales.

The business is a vehicle sales and service business for Mack, Volvo, Hino and Isuzo trucks.

It has locations in Muncie and Toledo, Ohio, and according to its website sells and services all makes of used trucks, operates full-service lease and rental operations, and has collision centers equipped to repair all makes of trucks.

Greg Dempsey, Steve Bassett and Brent Wampler represented General Truck Sales at the planning commission meeting and all spoke at the public hearing.

The group discussed plans to construct a new 56,000-square-foot building in the Ingalls Interpark area at the southwest corner of Interstate 69 and State Road 13.

The building would be for the sales and service of semi-tractor trailer vehicles.

Ingalls planning commission members asked about hours of operation.

Bassett said the sales department would close about 6 p.m. However, he said service may continue into the night with late-night emergency work.

Wampler also spoke and said it has a green option and would use LED lighting. The LED lighting would be dimmed in the parking lot areas when the sales part of the business was closed to keep from being a light nuisance.

Tim Millikan, Ingalls town manager, requested the sales area have three landscaping islands and three parking aisle sections to break up the parking area to make it more appealing.

Madison County Council of Governments agreed with the request.

Other things discussed about the construction of the business included billboards placed along I-69 and the need to comply with Ingalls sign standards.

Also discussed was the handling of spent oil, and Wampler said oils are trapped within their work and parking areas and will not get into the nearby pond area.

Millikan noted those types of issues are regulated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Millikan then recommended the planning commission sign off on the business plan, and the commission agreed with him, approving the plan.
