PENDLETON — An inmate at the Pendleton Correctional Facility died July 11 after being attacked by another offender, according to warden Dushan Zatecky.

Ezekiel Jones died at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital of an “apparent stab wound sustained when he was attacked by another offender,” according to a press release emailed July 12.

“At approximately 9:57 a.m., staff working in the facility’s H-Cellhouse were investigating the origins of a loud noise when they observed offender Ezekiel Jones laying on his back with an injury to his neck,” the press release states.

Jones was taken to the facility’s health care center for emergency treatment, transferred to St. Vincent in Anderson and then to St. Vincent in Indianapolis, where he died at about 2 p.m.

Jones was sentenced out of Allen County on two counts of robbery and one count of murder, with a projected release date of July 23, 2042.

“The suspect in the attack and potential witnesses to the incident are being questioned by the facility’s investigations and intelligence staff, along with investigators from the Indiana State Police,” Zatecky wrote in the press release. “The facility has been placed on lockdown status with visitation suspended until further notice.”
