Lapel prepares for budget meetings

LAPEL — Lapel will conduct a public hearing on the 2019 budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Town Hall, 825 N. Main St., Lapel.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, the town council will meet at Lapel Eagles, 110 E. Ninth St., to adopt the a budget, including the estimated civil maximum levy of $306,843 and the property tax cap credit estimate of $86,983.

Complete details of budget estimates by fund and department are available at Town Hall.

Up to seven days after the public hearing, any group of 10 or more taxpayers may object to the budget, tax rate or tax levy by filing an objection petition with town officials.

The objection petition must identify the provisions of the budget, tax rate or tax levy to which taxpayers object. If a petition is filed, Lapel will adopt with the budget a finding concerning the objections in the petition and testimony presented.
