Ingalls wants abandoned vehicles moved

INGALLS — After several complaints came in concerning abandoned vehicles and junked cars, Ingalls Town Council is working on a plan to have property owners clean up.

At the Monday, March 9, meeting, town council President Scot Lawyer said town offices have received a number of calls concerning abandoned cars and neglected personal property.

Lawyer said a letter of notice, along with a copy of the ordinance, will be sent to property owners in their next water bills.

“We want to give people ample time to make arrangements to make those vehicles legal or get them moved off,” Lawyer said of what he called an ongoing problem.

“There are several cars around town that need to be cleaned up or moved out. They’ve been sitting there for years,” council member Teresa Egerton added.

Street department openings

The Town of Ingalls is looking to replace two street department personnel.

Shaune Robinson and Billy Nickerson recently resigned their positions.

Robinson’s last day is Friday. A week ago Friday, Nickerson put in his two-weeks notice.

Lawyer said the town will conduct a special meeting March 16 to begin discussions on filling the positions.

Desco annexation

The council conducted a public hearing prior to Monday’s meeting about annexing an area that includes Desco Flooring at County Road 750 West and State Road 67.

The area and business had previously been annexed into Ingalls, but when Desco added a storage building, part of the structure was built outside the town limits.

Ingalls is working on correcting the ordinance so all of the company’s structures will be inside town limits.

The ordinance was tabled until the next council meeting, March 23, to check contiguity laws.

New business location

In his report to the council concerning news from the Ingalls Plan Commission Board, Kip Golden, secretary of the board, told the council the commission gave the go-ahead to developer Jeff Clark for his plans for Ingalls Creek Shoppes, a multi-tenant retail building that will be located at County Road 800 South and State Road 13.

Town attorney Gregg Morelock added that a board of zoning appeals meeting prior to the plan commission meeting granted the developer four variances.

Morelock said once Clark receives his approval letters from the commission and BZA, plans will begin with the hope of businesses operating by the “Christmas season.”
